Strong wind causes tree to fall onto Berkeley apartment
Berkeley officials say strong winds caused a large tree to fall on an apartment on College Avenue Monday, but luckily no one was injured.

BERKELEY, Calif. (KGO) -- Berkeley officials say strong winds caused a large tree to fall on an apartment Monday, but luckily no one was injured.

Crews worked hard to remove the tree, but it is so large that they weren't able to finish cleaning it up.

Workers with a professional tree care company dropped everything when they got a call from the city of Berkeley about a fallen tree on College Avenue.

The 80-foot elm is three feet in diameter and much of it landed on top of an apartment building.

Officials said no one was hurt and there was minimal structural damage.

The elm was found hollow, likely diseased and the rain and wind were enough for the tree to topple.
