It wasn't that long ago that the laptop was declared dead. So what happened to change that?

The laptop of today is lighter and thinner than most consumers ever imagined. Many have the features of a tablet, but come with the higher storage and convenient keyboard.

"Really the biggest stand outs I think are the Surface Pro 4," said Jeff Lee, Tech Bargains.

Mireya Hernandez seems to agree. The first thing the Best Buy associate showed 7 On Your Side was the Surface Pro.

"The cool thing about it is you can actually detach the keyboard and use it like a tablet," said Hernandez.

It weighs just 1.6 pounds and is just one-third of an inch thick. the Surface Pro 4 retails for $1,000.

"Laptops are getting way thinner because of better technology with the processor. So with the better processor it doesn't produce as much heat. You can sort of shrink down the components and produce, plus in the end not have to worry about heat," said Jeff Lee, Tech Bargains.

HP calls its Spectre the world's thinnest laptop, although other manufacturers might disagree.

"This is paper thin. This is close to paper thin as you can possibly get," said Hernandez.

The HP Spectre starts at $1,249.

For those looking to upgrade without buying a new computer, consider adding AirBar. AirBar can convert your non-touch and make it touch enabled.

"This would be a fantastic tool for gamers. People who are doing general browsing, Facebooking, all those great things -- it's for them," said Remo Behdasht, Airbar

AirBar works best with Windows 10 and retails for $69.

Just to give you an idea on how thin these laptops are getting, this year's models are about 25 percent thinner than last years.
