Newest video game technology to debut at gaming conference in SF
From floppy disks to HD to virtual reality, here's a look back on how the industry has changed over the past 30 years.

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- A Tiburon- based research company predicts the global PC gaming hardware market will expand this year, after receding slightly last year. The research will be officially unveiled at Wednesday during the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco.

The GDC is the largest annual gathering of professional video game developers, focusing on learning, inspiration and networking.

The event includes an expo, networking events, awards shows such as the Independent Games Festival and the Game Developers Choice Awards, and a variety of tutorials, lectures, and roundtables by industry professionals on game-related topics covering programming, design, audio, production, business and management and visual arts.
