1 dead, 2 injured after car slams into tree in San Jose

SAN JOSE -- One person died and two others were injured when the vehicle they were in struck a tree in South San Jose this morning.

Around 3:55 a.m., officers responded to a crash happening near Almaden Expressway and Redmond Avenue, according to police.

When officers arrived, officers found a dark-colored pick up truck with major damage, police said.

One of the vehicle's occupants was able to get out of the truck, while two others remained trapped inside. Emergency crews arrived removed the two occupants, according to police.

One of the occupants was pronounced dead at the scene. The two other occupants were taken to the hospital to treat their injuries, police said.

After conducting a preliminary investigation, officers determined the truck left the roadway and struck a tree.
