40,000 pounds of avocados spill onto highway in Texas
About 40,000 pounds of avocados spilled onto a highway in Texas Thursday after the big rig carrying them crashed and caught fire.

ELLIS COUNTY, Texas -- About 40,000 pounds of avocados spilled onto Interstate 35, south of Waxahachie in Texas Thursday morning after the big rig carrying them crashed and caught fire.

Smoke could be seen coming from the charred semi trailer as firefighters worked to put out the fire.

No other cars were involved.

The incident prompted officials to shut down the highway in both directions for nearly three hours.

It was unclear what condition the driver was in.

Texas Department of Public Safety troopers planned to be back out Friday morning to figure out how the crash happened.
