SAN FRANCISCO -- San Francisco BART riders are experiencing delays of around 20 minutes during today's morning commute due to an equipment malfunction, a

dispatcher said.

Braking problems on a train brought delays to the 16th Street BART station in the East Bay direction shortly before 9 a.m., according to a

dispatcher.

As of about 9:15 a.m., trains were moving again and BART was recovering from the delay, the dispatcher said.

San Francisco Fire Department reported on Twitter at 9:13 a.m. that the department had received reports of smoke and it was possibly due to

the train's brake issue.

Although no injuries were reported, the department advised people to avoid the area.
