Blown insulator at EMB. Should be restoring service soon- no injuries or danger. Occasionally happens when oxides build on insulators.— Taylor (@iwriterealgood) July 18, 2017
BART tweeted shortly before 11 a.m. that trains were delayed in the East Bay direction due to an equipment problem. Witnesses reported that something popped, or exploded on a train at the station heading toward Oakland, sending smoke into the station.
No injuries were reported, and the system was recovering from the delays.
The cause was a blown insulator.
