PALO ALTO, Calif. (KGO) -- Caltrain announced an aggressive new safety measures to limit access to its tracks - a suicide prevention effort.

The transportation agency said Tuesday the city of Palo Alto will install thermal infrared cameras that can detect people on the tracks more than a mile away.

The cameras will be installed at the Meadow Avenue Crossing in mid-September for a two-month trial period.

For its part, Caltrain will install new fences and barriers to the existing fences, which make them more difficult to climb.
