ORINDA, Calif. (KGO) -- The Caldecott Tunnel will be reverting back down to two or three bores over the next couple of weeks.

Caltrans plans to do some work that will force them to close bores one and two, the eastbound tunnels, possibly at the same time but only at night.

The work begins Monday at 10 p.m. It involves re-aligning the approach to bore number two and replacing a median barrier.

Caltrans said the Caldecott's fourth bore opened with great fanfare last fall.

It has saved an average of 10 to 15 minutes of travel time for drivers headed in the off-peak direction.
