16th st station is now open. We are terribly sorry for inconvenience this evening. We still have delays but working to get back to normal.— SFBART (@SFBART) September 10, 2016
The incident was reported at 7:22 p.m. at the 16th Street BART station, according to BART spokeswoman Alicia Trost.
It's too soon to know how or why the victim ended up on the train tracks, but as of 8:30 p.m. that person had been confirmed deceased, Trost said.
Trains passed through the station without stopping and passengers experienced major delays system-wide.
BART tweeted that the station reopened around 9:35 p.m. null
