SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- A San Francisco native has become the first American woman to captain a cruise ship.

Kate McCue is a graduate of CSU's Maritime Academy in Vallejo.

She'll soon take command of the Celebrity Summit.

McCue says she can't wait to take the helm of the 91,000-ton cruise ship.

She says she's been wanting to captain a ship and took her first cruise at the age of 12.
