SAN JOSE, Calif. -- A 2-year-old boy suffered serious injuries but is expected to survive after a car struck him in San Jose Monday morning, police said.

Police responded at 11:15 a.m. to a report of a vehicle striking a pedestrian near the intersection of Midpine and McLaughlin avenues, a few blocks north of Tully Road, after the boy had wandered into the street, police Sgt. Heather Randol said.

The boy was transported to a hospital, where he is being treated for injuries that are serious but not considered life-threatening, Randol

said.

The driver of the car remained at the scene, cooperated with police and there is no evidence that drug or alcohol use contributed to the accident, she said.
