SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (KGO) -- A man was injured after falling out of redwood tree near the University of California Santa Cruz campus and was taken to a hospital, authorities say.

The 20-year-old fell 60 to 70 feet and suffered multiple fractures, including compound fractures on both legs, and was airlifted to Stanford Medical Trauma Center, firefighter said.

The tree is well-known and has a rope and fort on its branches, officials say. The man fell as he was climbing down the rope. He was with a group of people when the accident happened.
