Controlled flaring planned at Valero oil refinery in Benicia

BENICIA, Calif. -- The city of Benicia announced on Facebook late Thursday morning that it has been notified of a controlled unit shut down at the Valero Benicia oil refinery that may cause periodic flaring over the next few hours.

There is no emergency associated with the flaring, but city officials said they want the community to be aware of the possibility of flaring, according to the Facebook post around 11:45 a.m.
