Lake Tahoe ski resorts prepare to open early
A nice amount of snow is on the ground in the Sierra and that means an early opening to ski season.

LAKE TAHOE, Calif. (KGO) -- A nice amount of snow is on the ground in the Sierra and that means an early opening to ski season.

It's beginning to look a lot like ski season at Heavenly.

"The good news is Mother Nature has delivered in a big way this fall," said Pete Sonntag with Heavenly Mountain Resort.

He's talking about three feet of fresh powder, not to mention all the snow the resort has been making. The good news translates to an early opening by a week.

"It's nice," said Danny Breznik, a skier from Redwood City. "It's better than last year. I mean, last year there wasn't really any snow."

Local businesses are ready for tourists.

"We're obviously going to have a lot more people coming in to see the whole heavenly village to ski on the mountain and to come shop in the store," said Jason Garcia with Sealed with a Kiss Boutique.

Heavenly is opening with the longest run in Lake Tahoe. The season's forecast is looking great.

"We love all the talk about El Nino and we have an awesome snow making system," said Sonntag.

Even those who enjoy Heavenly year-round are feeling the anticipation the night before opening day.

"Even for myself personally I'm looking to get up on the mountain and go snowboarding," Garcia said.
