Vallejo residents still without power
Hundreds of residents are still without power in Vallejo.

VALLEJO, Calif. (KGO) -- Emily Boyd gave away all the ice cream in her freezer, an act that might be best described as pragmatic since she hasn't had power since Sunday.

"I am going to eat a lot of ice cream today, that is for sure," she said, better than to let it go to waste.

Twelve hours ago, high winds toppled a tree, which brought down three power poles and knocked out electricity to 370 Vallejo PG&E customers.

In time, 12 hours became 18 hours.

"We don't want to go through another night of this. That would be an ordeal," explained Alberto Delgadillo, a Vallejo resident, as he checked the status of groceries in his freezer.

A few doors away, same from Rama Mody, who works at home on a computer. But not today.

"I can't eat, I can't cook anything," said Mody.

PG&E says Sunday night's winds stretched crews to their limits. They brought outside contractors in to work this mess in Vallejo.

Still residents lamented how much time it has taken.

"I am a little disappointed that they did not get going earlier. I'm from back East. We have big storms and you hear chainsaws at 8 a.m. Things are being cleared," said Matt Hurley of Vallejo.

Meanwhile, back at Delgadillo's place, his telephone is being charged in the front yard from the battery of his car.

Not exactly Third World standards, but after this windstorm, it's as close as residents of Vallejo want to get.

Daldagillo just hopes no one calls while he is inside, unless it's PG&E calling to say the power is back.

California's insurance commissioner is urging people to check their insurance and do a home inventory. Most policies don't cover flooding, but will cover damage from falling trees or wind. For more information on what may be covered, click here.
