Bay Area students app finalists in national transportation competition

BERKELEY, Calif. (KGO) -- What if you could link a carpool to work with getting your kids to school?

A team of students from UC Berkeley and the California College of the Arts have come up with an app that'll do just that. They call it The Hub.

While they haven't rolled it out yet, they've just been named finalist in the Next Generation Mobility Challenge by Toyota and Net Impact.

"Our idea is to bring those two sets of parents together after they drop their kids off at school so they find a common meeting location and then commute together," explained Nisha Pathak, who attends the UC's School of Information.

The app would consider the time and location of your child's school, as well as your workplace and when you needed to be there.

The winning team will be announced in early summer. They will be offered summer internships at Toyota, funded by the Toyota Mobility Foundation, which was established to address mobility challenges around the world.

The winners may be considered for funding to bring their solution to life from the Toyota Mobility Foundation.
