Insurance giant GEICO, Government Employees Insurance Company, says it will pay $6 million to settle a complaint accusing the company of unfairly over charging poor, low-and-moderate income women, and single drivers.

The complaint was filed by the Consumer Federation of California, or CFC. GEICO says it will stop the practice.

The CFC said GEICO charged those targeted drivers as much as 54 percent more than other good drivers for a minimum-limits policy.

Any California consumer who believes he or she overpaid for insurance as a result of receiving an inflated online GEICO quote should contact the Consumer Federation of California by phone at (916) 498-9608, or by email at mail@consumercal.org
