Disneyland turns 60! See original Mickey Mouse ears, other collectibles

Disneyland opened its doors for the first time on July 17, 1955. Ever wonder what the iconic Mickey Mouse ears looked like back then?

To celebrate its Diamond anniversary, Disneyland showed off its line of collectible Disney antiques. From mid-century Mickey Mouse ears to tickets from the park's first day, fans can get a glimpse at what the park was like back then.

Justin Arthur, a Disney Archivist, explained how the park operated differently back when it first opened. Guests used booklets that contained tickets for individual attractions, and you needed those to ride the rides. These days, of course, admission to the park is all you need to jump on a ride.

The collectibles are part of over 500 items the park rolled out to help fans commemorate the milestone.

The park in Anaheim, Calif. is open 24 hours, 6 a.m. local time Friday - 6 a.m. Saturday, as part of the celebration. The parked is decked out with Diamond Celebration enhancements everywhere from the Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland Park to the Carthay Circle Theatre at Disney California Adventure Park.

If you want to remember the anniversary (or even better, help a loved one celebrate the anniversary) with a blast from the past, Friday is the first day that a special set of collectibles will be available in the Disneyana store in Anaheim.
