For any child whose had to go to great lengths to convince their parents to get them a toy they really wanted, "A Christmas Story" is your anthem. Ralphie tries to convince his parents, his teacher and even a local mall Santa Claus that a Red Ryder B.B. gun is the perfect gift for a young boy. "A Christmas Story" is full of holiday nostalgia, and always provides the hilarious warning not to lick icy poles.

The American Film Institute ranks "It's a Wonderful Life" to be the most inspirational movie ever made, and with good reason. Jimmy Stewart's depressed regular man George Bailey is shown what life would have been life if he had never existed by his guardian angel Clarence. For anyone down in the dumps this holiday season, "It's a Wonderful Life" will surely pull you out.

One of the most magical Christmas movies that also captures the holiday magic that December brings in New York City, "Miracle on 34th" street is over 60 years old but like Santa, it's goodness never ages. A remake came out in 1994 in color for viewers who don't like Christmas in black and white.

"The Nightmare Before Christmas"

Arguably the only film that doubles as a Halloween and Christmas movie, Tim Burton's animated musical is the spookiest entree on the Christmas movie menu. But seeing Jack Skellington sing "What's this?" when first being introduced to the Christmas winter wonderland definitely encapsulates the youthful spirit of the holidays.

"Home Alone / Home Alone: Lost in New York"

Picking either or of the Home Alone movies is a difficult task, seeing how they both pack unique Christmas qualities. "Home Alone" showed us the importance of family love during the holiday season. "Home Alone 2: Lost in New York" did the same thing, but pretty much in Manhattan instead of the suburbs. Regardless of which "Alone" you watch, Kevin McCallister and crew should be welcome guests in your home this Christmas.

"Elf"

An oversized elf ventures away from the North Pole to New York City in hopes of finding out his true identity and meeting his father. One of the more recent additions to the Christmas classic list, "Elf" has been cherished by moviegoers since its release in 2003.

"Scrooged"

One more for the adults, "Scrooged" is a comedic, meta spin on Charles Dicken's "A Christmas Carol." A cynical, foul-mouthed television executive played by Bill Murray has a visit from three ghosts on the eve of producing "A Christmas Carol" special for his network. There've been plenty of "Carol" renditions over the years, but not nearly as funny as Murray's.

"Die Hard"

Not your typical Christmas flick, but action movie enthusiasts will gladly let loose cannon NYC cop John McClane crawl through their ventilation ducts this December. Yippie-ki-yay, Christmas movie lovers.
