Strict parking enforcement for Outside Lands weekend

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- Parts of Golden Gate Park are being transformed into a concert hall with a sound stage for the masses. Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival, which kicks off on Friday, will draw music fans from across the U.S. and is a huge money-maker for the city and concert promoters.

For those living near Golden Gate Park, they get non-stop music and a little extra. "You've got motorcycles parked all over the place, cars parked all over the place, people eating sandwiches in front of your curb," San Francisco resident Ray Yeung said.

Difficult-to-find parking along busy Fulton Ave. and its side streets becomes even more precious each time a music festival pulls into town.

Signs are already being put in place to warn drivers of the stiff fines and possible towing for concert-goers not paying attention to where they park.

It is the seventh year for the three-day music festival that is considered one of the best in San Francisco. Controversial hip hop star Kanye West will top the line-up, along with Tom Petty and Macklemore and Ryan Lewis.

Making the most of the music festival and its five stages of performers means not only should concert-goers pay attention to the schedule, but they also need to mind the rules about parking.

"People live here. We have to work. Even though the party is still going on all weekend, we still live here and have things to do," San Francisco resident Sarah Fodge said.

There's a mad dash to get the final pieces in place.

This year, there's a special tribute. The U.S. Postal Service will introduce a Forever Series stamp honoring rock icon Janis Joplin on Friday at 1:30 p.m.
