ALAMEDA, Calif. (KGO) -- Many Bay Area residents took part in the 75th commemoration of the Doolittle Raid aboard the USS Hornet Museum on Tuesday, which may be an interesting contrast to the hip hop artists who will perform there during the upcoming Memorial Day music festival.

Wiz Khalifa and the Wu-Tang Clan will be headlining the "The Ship Show."

USS Hornet Museum Executive Director Jill Knowland Rapposelli acknowledges some of the artists might not seem like an obvious fit for a historic Naval aircraft carrier. "I think you have to look past the rough exteriors. They all say 'don't judge a book by it's cover' because these bands do a lot of charity work. A portion of every ticket sale is going to the Hornet as a donation," she said.

Wiz Khalifa recently stirred controversy during a recent trip to Colombia for a tribute to drug kingpin Pablo Escobar. He will one be one of several artists at the two-day music event.

ABC7 News asked a few attendees of Tuesday's commemoration what they thought of the artists. "Any exposure to the ship, to get the younger folks to come out here because once they come here for the music, then they'll see the ship, and I think that's fantastic," filmmaker George Retelas said.

"This is what we call the land of the free. This is our country. So, people are free and capable of doing whatever it is they like," Air Force retiree Alex Smith said.

Security will be provided by the Alameda Police Department.

The music festival will be one of the largest events ever hosted aboard the World War II era air craft carrier.
