SAN PABLO, Calif. (KGO) -- The flu season is now underway and many people across the Bay Area are turning to local clinics and hospitals to get their flu shot.
Employees at Doctors Medical Center in San Pablo are hosting a free drive-thru flu shot clinic for adults. It's an easy way for community members to get their shot.
These drive-thru clinics are nothing new, but with recent concerns about Ebola, this is a chance for local medical professionals to set the record straight
"The most important factor to worry about Ebola, is the patient either coming from the endemic area, from West Africa, or they had contact with a patient with Ebola," said Dr. Khosrow Afsari of Doctors Medical Center.
Instead of Ebola the Centers for Disease Control is encouraging people to focus on flu prevention. Every year, thousands die due to complications related to the disease.
California is starting to showing sporadic activity but many aren't taking any chances.
"It's certainly convenient if I don't even have to get out of the car. I have my 90 -year with me. I found out about this because we have a neighborhood watch." said Sheri Sweet of Richmond.
The free flu shots go until 5:30 p.m.
Doctors Medical Center doesn't have a pediatric ward, so shots are first come, first serve for adults over the age of 18.
