One person has died and four others are injured in a bus versus vehicle crash in Antioch.

ANTIOCH, Calif. (KGO) -- One person has died and several are injured after a gruesome accident between a car and a bus in Antioch. The accident happened at Burwood Way and Davison Drive about 5:45 Thursday morning.

The bus ended up on the side of the road up a hill. The car was demolished in the middle of the street. The coroner has removed the body and the identity of the person who died is still in the process of being determined.

The Tri Delta Transit bus was traveling eastbound on Davison Drive and the car was heading northbound on Burwood. The bus driver reported the car pulling right in front of him at the intersection. It appears the bus driver tried to swerve when he crossed the center-divide ending up on a hill. The impact crushed the Saturn.

"The vehicle that was involved did have a stop sign. Upon impact it does appear that the driver was ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced deceased at the scene. The bus ended up on the embankment. We had five passengers on the bus, plus the driver. The passengers did suffer minor injuries. The driver (of the bus) was uninjured but is obviously very distraught over what occurred here," said Antioch Police Department Capt. Leonard Orman.

There were six people on the bus total -- the driver and five passengers. Four of them were taken to a hospital. The extent of their injuries is unknown. This is along route bus route 388 which travels to the Pittsburg/Bay Point BART station. A Tri Delta Transit official said one of the next stops is near a park and ride where riders pack the bus, so it wasn't as full as it could have been. The driver has been with the company almost 20 years -- he's getting drug tested which is a standard procedure. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.

Police will try to determine if either of the drivers ran a stop sign or if speed was a factor. Davison Drive is a main thoroughfare in Antioch and there are traffic controls out. A detour is in place.
