2 San Francisco residents injured in 3-alarm house fire

SAN FRANCISCO -- Firefighters battled a three-alarm blaze at a home in San Francisco's Ingleside neighborhood where occupants were initially believed to be trapped this morning, a fire department spokeswoman said.

San Francisco fire spokeswoman Mindy Talmadge said that initially, when the fire was reported at 8:56 a.m. at a home in the 1100 block of Plymouth Avenue near Ocean Avenue, there were reports that two people were trapped in an in-law unit behind the main residence.

Firefighters focused on fighting the blaze from the rear and making entry into the rear unit, but had a difficult time getting through the garage, Talmadge said.

Once firefighters were able to gain entry to the rear unit, they encountered four to five pit bulls, Talmadge said.

The dogs did not injure anyone and firefighters were informed that everyone was accounted for and that nobody was still inside the building, according to Talmadge.

Two injuries have been reported in the fire, which was contained at 10:11 a.m. but was not yet extinguished, fire officials said.

Talmadge said a firefighter was treated for exhaustion, while a passerby who tripped over a fire hose was transported to the hospital for treatment of their injuries.

Two neighboring buildings also appear to have sustained damage, Talmadge said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
