OAKLAND, Calif. -- Police say three additional suspects have been arrested in the fatal shooting of a 30-year-old mother in West Oakland last week.

Last Thursday, police announced that 19-year-old Anthony Sims had been arrested and charged with murder and unlawful firearm activity for the killing of Chyemil Pierce in front of her home in the 2900 block of Chestnut Street at about 4:45 p.m. on March 9 after a nearby argument turned violent.

Today, police said they arrested three additional suspects for the fatal shooting -- Shelton McDaniels, Jerry Harbin and Kiechelle Wilright, all 29 years old.

When police announced the arrest of Sims last Thursday, they said they were looking for other suspects and had not determined if he fired the shot that claimed Pierce's life.

Oakland police said they are forwarding the cases against the three new suspects to the Alameda County District Attorney's Office for possible charges.

They said they are seeking murder charges against McDaniels and Harbin and an accessory to murder charge against Wilright.

Police said they will provide more information about the arrests of the three new suspects at a later time.

Oakland police said Pierce was an innocent bystander killed in the crossfire of a gunfight that started after groups of male suspects got involved in a fight between female subjects on the street that day.

Police Lt. Roland Holmgren said Sims was one of several people who opened fire, leaving the street strewn with bullet casings from many different guns.

Sims was also injured in the gunfight along with one other person and was arrested at the hospital after he was treated for the gunshot wound, Holmgren said.

Pierce was trying to rush her children to safety when she was shot, according to police.

Holmgren said at least one of the guns that was used in the shooting was recovered but he declined to say whether it was used to kill Pierce.
