BAY POINT, Calif. (KGO) -- A man in Bay Point was arrested Saturday morning on vehicular manslaughter and felony DUI charges after driving into nine people in a parking lot early Saturday morning.

Deputies and county fire personnel responded to a call from La Finca Restaurant at about 2 a.m. That's where they found nine people injured, including two trapped underneath a vehicle.

The suspect, driving a full size truck, apparently backed up at a high rate of speed into a crowd of people standing in the parking lot, authorities say.

The suspect was detained by security prior to deputies arriving on scene.

A total of nine victims were transported to four local hospitals. One victim subsequently died after being taken to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek, authorities say.

The suspect is not being identified at this time.
