INVERNESS, Calif. (KGO) -- Local photographers and painters are mourning after an iconic landmark along the Inverness shoreline in "Point Reyes" was damaged in a fire Monday morning.

The Point Reyes has long been a favorite subject for regional photographers and painters. For decades, the hulk has provided them with inspiration.

Some locals are suspicious of foul play involved with this burning.

The Point Reyes burned for more than two hours and consumed much of the old boar's stern.

The boat sits on National Park Service property.

The agency is investigating the cause of the fire.
