ROHNERT PARK, Calif. -- A male suspect in an alleged assault involving a wrench early Sunday morning at the Graton Resort & Casino in Rohnert Park is at large, according to the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies responded to a report of an assault at a parking lot of the casino located at 288 Golf Course Drive W. around 3:20 a.m., sheriff's officials said.

The victim was sleeping in the passenger seat of her car at the south parking lot where the male suspect appeared to be watching her and entered the vehicle on the driver's side, according to the sheriff's office.

With a metal wrench he struck the female victim's arm, hand and head, sheriff's officials said.

The female was transported to a hospital for treatment, according to the sheriff's office.

Security guards heard the female's screams and chased the suspect away, sheriff's officials said.

Arriving deputies were unable to find the suspect.

The suspect was seen on video from the parking lot surveillance system but heavy fog on the footage has made it difficult for investigators to identify him, according to sheriff's officials.

The female's boyfriend was inside the casino at the time of the incident, sheriff's officials said.

Detectives from the Sheriff's Office's violent crimes unit are investigating the case.
