Authorities clearing large homeless camp in San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- A homeless camp is being swept on Division Street in San Francisco. An estimated 50 tents are being removed from the area.

The city, citing health concerns, ordered everyone living along Division and 13th streets in tents to move out by last Friday, but waited until Tuesday at 5 a.m. to make the sweep.

If anyone refuses to leave, the city can take possessions and store them for 90 days. After 90 days they can claim it, or the city can throw it away. The homeless who refuse to go will be arrested for violating the order. So far, the sweep has been peaceful.

City outreach workers are offering resources to the homeless impacted by the sweep.

Barricades have been set up in the middle of the sidewalk giving people enough room to walk, but not enough room to pitch a tent.
