Bay Area police officers travel to Dallas to honor fallen officers

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- President Obama and the first lady are visiting Dallas Tuesday morning to honor the five fallen officers killed by a sniper last week.

The president will be speaking at an interfaith service and meeting with the officers' families.

Several Bay Area police departments are also sending officers to Dallas.

The San Francisco Police Department is sending a contingent of officers, and a department spokesperson said she wouldn't be surprised if additional officers flew to Dallas on their own time and on their own dime.

The Pittsburg Police Department is sending four officers from its honor guard.

A captain in the department says Southwest is covering airfare and PM AM Corporation in Dallas will provide hotels for the officers.

Four officers from Concord PD are also heading to Dallas.

It's a trip that brings up memories of another dark day. "This is a huge loss. This brings back memories to other people. Some say 9/11, some say other losses close to home was Oakland when we lost our four. It means a lot to go out there, but it's sad we have to," Concord Police Ofc. Kenny Trimble said.

Funerals for three of the Dallas officers will be held this week. Services for the other two are still pending.
