Bicyclist fatally struck by vehicle in Sunnyvale

SUNNYVALE, Calif. -- A bicyclist was fatally struck by a vehicle in Sunnyvale this morning, public safety officials said.

The Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety reported at 8:20 a.m. that the collision occurred at West Fremont and South Mary avenues.

Public safety officials said the incident did not involve any students from nearby schools.

Motorists are encouraged to avoid the area because traffic is backed up in all directions, public safety officials said.
