Body discovered near landfill in Milpitas
MILPITAS, Calif. (KGO) -- Police in Milpitas say a body was discovered near the Newby Island Landfill Tuesday night.
San Jose police say they are heading up the investigation at the Republic Services Recycling Center since the body was found right near the border of the two cities.
An adult body was found in a pile of recycling material around 4 p.m. It is not yet known if the body is that of a man or woman.
The Republic Services Recycling Center is where the material is dumped and sorted after the trucks collect it along their routes.
The recycling and garbage collectors keep track of where the waste is picked up and where it's dumped so investigators will likely look at the records and try to narrow down the location of where the body was picked up by the recycling truck.
