SAN FRANCISCO -- A body was found in San Francisco Bay near the Golden Gate Bridge this morning, San Francisco fire officials said.

Reports of a body floating in the Bay came in around 7:30 a.m., a fire dispatcher said. As of about 8:30 a.m., crews had recovered the body and taken it on board a city fireboat, which was headed back to shore.

The U.S. Coast Guard assisted the fire department in recovering the body. It appears the person had been dead for about a week, Coast Guard officials said.
