OAKLAND, Calif. -- The California Highway Patrol broke up an illegal sideshow on Interstate Highway 580 in Oakland early Sunday morning.
The incident occurred around 1 a.m. near the Fruitvale Avenue exit. One driver was cited and released after a brief pursuit, according to
Officer Sean Wilkenfeld.
The driver briefly tried to flee the scene in a Chevy Impala but was quickly apprehended by officers, Wilkenfeld said, and that vehicle will be impounded for a month at the driver's expense.
"Sideshows are dangerous and they're illegal," Wilkenfeld said. "This driver is going to face the consequences."
"He no longer has the car for 30 days, and it's going to be a lot of tow fees," Wilkenfeld added. "Think twice before you're involved in a sideshow. It could cost you quite a bit."
Further details were not immediately available.
