Firefighters extinguish 3-alarm blaze in SF's Inner Richmond

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- A three-alarm fire broke out Friday at a three-story house in San Francisco's Inner Richmond District at 2nd Avenue and Geary Street.

Traffic is a mess in the area. Firefighters are in the process of mopping up the quick-burning fire.

The first call came at 1:55 p.m. that a multi-unit three-story apartment building caught on fire.

Fire crews got the residents out quickly, many who didn't even know the building was ablaze.

Firefighters were able to save the building on one side but the flames spread to the two-flat building on the other side, burning the edges of that building.

They quickly snuffed out the fire, which was a difficult blaze because of the abundance of electrical wires overhead.

"They had tough laddering conditions, as you can see. We face these difficulties a lot when we come to these buildings where we have the wires. That's why we keep the wooden ladders. The wooden ladders are really important to us, so we don't get shocked," SFFD Deputy Chief Mark Gonzalez said.

There were no injuries. The cause and the origin of the fire have yet to be determined.

The arson team is currently investigating.
