SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- Crews are working to repair two water main breaks that popped up in San Francisco overnight. They're miles apart and don't seem connected.

They are working to repair one of two mains that ruptured overnight on Mission Street near College Avenue. Crews say a four inch pipe from the 1930s broke and they have shut off the water for one side of the block.

Crews are also working on a break at Santos and Valasco. They shut the water off there for a couple of blocks while they work on an 8 inch break. That pipe is from the 1940s.

They are also dealing with water flowing at Bayshore and Lois Lane. This isn't a main break, but a water valve broke. They don't have to shut the water off for that one so this repair is a lower priority.

"Over the past couple of days, we've seen some dramatic shifts in temperature. It's been cold. It's been warm. And, as those older pipes expand and contract, they're brittle and then they just break," said Charles Sheehan, Public Utilities Commission spokesperson.

Crews expect the repairs to last through the morning.
