Deadline revealed for developers of San Francisco's sinking Millennium Tower

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- A deadline was revealed Thursday for the developers of the sinking Millennium Tower in San Francisco.

At yet another city hearing on the tower, it was announced that city hall has asked the developer to respond to questions made by three independent engineers on the condition of the tower.

The state of the tower has been reviewed in a number of reports, including one issued by the developer's structural engineer called the "hamburger report." Those reports have now been reviewed by the three independent engineers hired by the city.

After inspecting the building, those engineers want to know the tilt of the building, and other forces affecting it such as gravity, stress due to the settlement of the building, and their predictions of future settlements. They also want to know the weight of the tower. "And how would the building perform if there is any future settlements or additional settlements," City Administrator Naomi Kelly said.

The Department of Building Inspection asked that these questions be answered by Friday.

"It's time to stop requesting, and time to order Millennium Partners to come up with a plan for a complete stabilization of the building with a timeline," Millennium Tower resident Jerry Dodson said.

Millennium Partners issued a statement, saying, "We are providing all the information the city administrator has asked for, and will continue to do so, as we have all along."

So far, the tower has sunk 16 inches, and is leaning six inches toward a neighboring skyscraper. The tower is not anchored into the bedrock below as many of the surrounding buildings.
