SANTA ROSA, Calif. (KGO) -- Sonoma County Supervisor Shirlee Zane is calling out Sheriff Steve Freitas for his decision to put back on duty the deputy who shot and killed Santa Rosa teen Andy Lopez.

In an Op-ed piece published in Friday's "Press Democrat," Supervisor Zane criticized Sheriff Freitas for putting Deputy Erick Gelhaus back on the street. Zane says she was "blindsided" by the decision. She says it's a slap in the face to the community and that she is also upset with Freitas for not involving the supervisors in his decision.
