Family that just moved to San Francisco loses belongings after rental truck stolen

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- Vehicle thefts and break-ins are on the rise, and one couple knows that all too well. They lost just about everything they owned when their 16-foot moving van with Oklahoma plates was stolen in San Francisco.

Jeremy Biane, his wife Erin Coe, and their 17-month-old son Austin had just moved from San Diego to San Francisco two weeks ago. They packed everything they owned into a Budget moving truck.

"It had our clothes, our furniture and a lot of electronics," said Erin.

They arrived at her parent's home on Feb. 29. They planned to spend a week there and then move to an apartment at UCSF where Jeremy, a neuroscientist, had just been hired.

On the night of Friday, March 3, their fully loaded van was parked in front of their parent's house.

Jim Coe explains, "Saturday morning, my son-in-law comes in and says, 'Jim, did you move the truck?' And I said, 'No, I did not move the truck.' So he says, 'Well, I think it's missing.'"

"It was like -- how can you move a 16 foot truck in the middle of the night?" said Erin.

It's been almost two weeks. They've moved into their new apartment. The truck is still missing. The bare apartment is testimony to that. Nevertheless, the two are grateful.

"Our family and friends have pulled together and helped us out," said Erin.

The bed was donated by friends, the dining table is from Erin's parents, and the baby toys were also given to them. But it's the priceless things, like the baby book Erin so lovingly put together, that's irreplaceable.

"No one needs that except me and my son and my family and that just hurts, that someone would rip that away from me," Erin said.
