Man accused of killing teen after boy laughed at his misfortune
An Indiana man is accused of shooting a 13-year-old boy nine times after the teen laughed upon hearing the man's home had been burglarized.

GARY, IN -- A Gary, IN, man is accused of shooting his 13-year-old neighbor Friday when the boy laughed at his hardship.

The suspect returned home to find his home had been burglarized. A group of neighbors gathered after he started yelling. Kobe Jones, 13, started laughing at the suspect. According to witnesses, the suspect became enraged and shot Jones nine times.

Jones' stepmother, Starr Jones, said, "The death of a child is horrible. Nobody plans to bury their child at 13 years old. No one was planning for a funeral."

The suspect fled the scene after the shooting, but returned later and was arrested.

Gary is a troubled city often called "Scary Gary." It has lost more than half its population in the past half century.
