Man fatally shot in San Jose identified as economics professor

SAN JOSE, Calif. (KGO) -- San Jose police publicly identified 37-year old David Moglen as the man who was fatally shot last Thursday night.

Now four days later, investigators say they still have no suspect or motive for the death of the economics professor.

Moglen lived in San Jose with his wife and two young daughters.

His wife did not want to be identified, but she told ABC7 News they'd been married 10 years and that Moglen was a wonderful father.

She shared family photos with ABC7 News and also said Moglen was a musician and song writer. He released an album under the name Ravin Odin.

Moglen was also a well-liked economics instructor. He'd been teaching at Foothill College for the past 12 years. "It's completely out of the blue and just very tragic." Foothill College dean Kurt Hueg said.

Hueg is the dean of the business and social sciences division at Foothill College. "He really cares for his students and works hard for them and really helps them with a difficult subject matter, which is economics," he said.

Moglen had been teaching over the summer and his class is now canceled.

Police say he was shot and killed just after 10 p.m. last Thursday at Willow and First streets.

Police have not released any information about a possible motive.

His colleagues want to make sure he's never forgotten. "We're going to be looking into setting up a memorial scholarship fund here for David to keep his memory alive," Hueg said.

Foothill College is offering grief counseling to students.
