Officials are searching for a suspect believed to be armed and dangerous after a shooting near Hayward's Cal State East Bay campus Tuesday afternoon.

HAYWARD, Calif. (KGO) -- Police arrested two suspects and are still searching for one other suspect in connection to a shooting near Hayward's Cal State East Bay campus on Tuesday.

The shooting prompted a shelter-in-place earlier, but campus is no longer on lockdown.

"The school was calling us to tell us there was a campus emergency and to make our way indoors and stay there until it's safe," Peter Ramirez said. "Then we started getting texts and phone calls from campus on what to do and we instantly followed through."

Fremont officers took to Twitter to announce their officers were involved in a shooting in an area around the CSUEB campus.

Among the locations with heavy police presence are City View Apartment homes, University Village Apartments and the intersection at Oakes and Campus drives.

The scene of the shooting may have been where two vehicles apparently collided on Carlos Bee Boulevard right next to campus.

The crash and the search appeared to be centered near the University Village Apartment complex, but officials are unclear if it's related to the Fremont officer-involved shooting.

Police searched the area, building by building for other suspects.

"I was just in my room waiting for my class and I heard the gunshots outside. I thought it was just crazy, so I went to the window and I saw the cops going up in the hills going really fast and then I saw some ambulances going down the hill. It was crazy," CSUEB student Victor Segura said.

Fremont police say Hayward police have since taken over the search for a suspect believed to be armed and dangerous.

Multiple calls to Hayward police have not been returned.

Campus Drive and Second Street are still closed at this time.
