NOVATO, Calif. -- A woman was found dead in a Novato residence Monday morning and a family member suspected in the slaying killed herself in San Francisco, a police lieutenant said.
Police found the victim after they received a request from a family member for a welfare check at a residence in the 300 block of Silvio Lane around 6 a.m., Novato police Lt. Oliver Collins said.
The woman had suffered significant injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, Collins said.
A female family member in her early 30s suspected of the homicide was discovered with a self-inflicted wound in a vehicle near the Great Highway in San Francisco later this morning and was pronounced dead at a hospital, police said.
Novato police Capt. Matt McCaffrey said the victim, who was in her late 60s, suffered stab wounds and cuts on her body but it's not certain that was the cause of death.
