CONCORD, Calif. (KGO) -- A Concord police officer shot and killed a carjacking suspect at the Willows Shopping Center Wednesday night, according to police.

The incident began just before 9 p.m. Wednesday night when Contra Costa County sheriff's deputies say they were chasing a stolen vehicle into the city of Concord and the Sun Valley Mall near I-680 and Sunvalley Blvd. The suspect got out of the car and fled on foot. The mall was then placed on lockdown.

The suspect then ran to the Willows Shopping Center and tried to carjack several vehicles. The suspect got into one car and tried to get away, but was cornered by Concord police, authorities said.

That's when witnesses, who were locked-down in several stores, say they heard about six gunshots. Several of the customers came out and saw the body of the suspect lying next to the stolen car.
