Pearland police release 911 call about Darryl Hamilton murder-suicide

PEARLAND, TX -- Pearland police released on Tuesday the 911 call that led them to the murder-suicide scene involving former Major League Baseball player Darryl Hamilton.

"I just got a call from my ex-wife. She was distraught. She asked me to come over there and call the police," Rohaven Richards calmly said to a Pearland dispatcher.

Richards is the ex-husband of Monica Jordan, who police say on Sunday shot and killed Hamilton then turned the gun on herself.

"I don't know what's the matter. I suspect it has to do with a guy she is in a current relationship with," Richards says in the 911 call.

Richards and Jordan weren't always friendly. A YouTube video from 2006 shows their Pearland home burning to the ground. Jordan admitted to chasing Richards around the home, trying to douse him with gasoline because she believed he was cheating on her.

Jordan was sentenced to 10 years of probation after pleading guilty, and on Tuesday, we learned Richards and their children were even granted a protection order against her.

"There were a lot of stressing factors there," said Trent Gaither, Jordan's attorney.

Jordan and Hamilton had recently broken up and were in the process of breaking up and were in the process of working out custody for their 14-month-old child.

"She was nice, she was ambitious, very pretty. I was surprised, but you always are," said Jolanda Jones, Jordan's friend.

"What you see is the end result. You don't see the path that these individuals took to get there," Gaither said.
