OAKLAND, Calif. (KGO) -- Police swarmed an Oakland neighborhood, east of Lake Merritt Thursday afternoon, when gunshots were fired from inside a house.
Oakland police took no chances and called out extra officers and the department's armored vehicle, called the Bearcat, to try and coax the suspect out.
Sky7 HD was overhead as police responded to the home on Seventh Avenue and East 21st Street, just East of Lake Merritt.
Police say gunshots were heard around 3:15 p.m. There were reports the man had been firing into the air.
The city's shotspotter system also picked up the gunfire. Officers responded in full force, blocking off nearby streets and surrounding the home.
It took about 30 minutes for the suspected shooter to finally come out of the house to surrender. Police then took him into custody.
Heavily armed officers then entered the home to see if anyone else was inside. They didn't find anyone. Police say they recovered two guns. Thankfully, no one was hurt during this entire incident.
Oakland police say they've left the scene and reopened the neighborhood back to residents.
