SAN JOSE, Calif. (KGO) -- Complaints by dozens of inmates at the Santa Clara County Jail are under review after the deaths of two inmates.

Two new correctional deputies have been placed on leave and Santa Clara County Sheriff Laurie Smith says up to 100 inmate grievances are now under investigation. The key investigators have also been moved out of the sheriff's headquarters because of the sensitivity of the probes, that's according to our media partner, the San Jose Mercury News.

Smith wouldn't say why the jailers were placed on leave, but said it did not involve excessive force against inmates. So far, eight correctional deputies have been put on leave since inmate Michael Tyree died of blunt force trauma in August. Three correctional deputies are charged with his murder.

On Monday 33-year-old Walter Roches died at the county jail. Yesterday the coroner's office said there was no foul play and no sign of acute injury in Roches' death.
