Robber, store clerk knife fight caught on camera
What started out as a scary attack turned into a modern day duel when a robber armed with a knife attacked a store clerk armed with an even bigger knife.

FALL RIVER, Mass. (KGO) -- A robber armed with a knife attacked a store clerk in Massachusetts Sunday morning, but the clerk is seen on surveillance video grabbing his own knife and fighting back. So what started as a scary attack turned into a modern day duel.

"He said, 'Give me money, give me money," said the clerk. "I was really scared. I don't know what I'm doing. Then I see the guy hit my head with a knife."

The owner of the store, which is about 90 minutes south of Boston, wasn't going to give up his hard-earned cash that easily.

The masked man had a knife. But watch out, not as big as the one the owner kept behind the counter.

The owner had $300 in cash in his left hand and a big knife in his right. And keep in mind, this didn't take place in the middle of the night. This happened at 9 a.m.

"I think he wanted to kill me," the victim said. "That's why I self-defended myself. That's why I did it. I just made him scared."

It got really bizarre once the knife duel moved away from the counter.

It's hard to see, but officials say the suspect picked up a new weapon from the store shelves, a can of corn, and tried hurling that at the owner.

But the owner still didn't give up the fight.

For some reason, next the store owner threw his knife and cash at the robber, then the suspect fled. Or rather, he jumped on a bicycle and pedaled his way out of there.

It didn't last long, however. Police arrested Jose Tirado-Sanchez because even though he was disguised in the attack, officials say they recognized the clothes he was wearing on the street.
