Santa Clara to issue proclamation against domestic violence

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (KGO) -- The Santa Clara City Council plans to issue a proclamation against domestic violence Tuesday night, but it won't mention Ray McDonald or the 49ers.

McDonald has been allowed to continue playing because he has yet to be formally charged in the case.

As ABC7 News first reported last week, a domestic violence group submitted a proposed resolution that would have condemned the 49ers, but they were told they missed the deadline. They plan a show of force at Tuesdays' meeting.

Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-California, is turning up the heat on the NFL. She was one of 16 senators who wrote to NFL commissioner Roger Goodell last week, demanding a zero-tolerance policy for domestic violence.

Now she's written to Goodell's new "senior vice president of public policy" saying in part: "It is imperative the NFL make a real commitment to prevent domestic violence, encourage victims to come forward, and punish all those responsible," regardless of the level of police involvement.
